You may be wondering if the wealthy have a secret to their decorating success. They do. And no, I’m not going to say it’s that they hire a professional designer!
C’mon peeps! What lesson would there be in that for you?!?
You don’t have to have a million dollar project budget to decorate with the same design wisdom the wealthy do. Use any of these rules and benefit!
Rule #1: Respect your resources. Hey, they’re wealthy for a reason!
My wealthiest, most financially savvy clients, every one of them, love a good line item budget. It’s a crucial step that comes very early in a project.
How you can use this rule: Financial control makes interior design far less stressful because it creates a steady plan.
Do not proceed with any project ….large or small…without first creating a complete line item budget.
Rule#2: Include art in your early design planning. The end result rewards are beautiful, amazing and signature.
How you can use this rule: Listen peep, it doesn’t need to be museum quality. It needs to be beautiful to you.
And please….make it big! No out of place looking itty-bitty things floating above your sofa, and no 8×10 graduation photos hung above that sofa either!! (Those are table top items).
No art gallery needed. Starting at an art website at the beginning of your project is a fine idea.
Rule #3: Buy quality. Simply put, the wealthy don’t buy crap. They expect quality, value and performance. Even at their beach homes.
How you can use this rule: OK, now settle your feathers. I’m not suggesting you spend beyond your budget! (See rule #1 above!)
No, I ‘m referring to a quality-to-value ratio. Buy the best you can afford. Splurge on one great item like the rug. Or the sofa. Or the headboard. Something you can love owning for a long time. Then trade down elsewhere to make up some budget steam.
There you go my lovely. Now go be wise.
