Hey there, my design diva and design-loving girlfriend! Here we go on pillows. If you have ever wondered while working on a project, maybe you are right now, do I or don’t I add pillows to this space? Let me tell you something, do it! Unless you are uber-modern and reductionist, the power of pillows cannot be overestimated. So, in this video, I’m revealing a couple of tips and some tricks.

So, when it comes to pillows, they’re actually power tools, jewelry accessories and they do a couple of important things in any space where you put them: they either move color, around, or through a space. They introduce an important color through a space. They reinforce an important color in a space. They add pattern or texture or shape. All of the above, some of the above and you decide what that will be.

Let’s take a look at a couple of examples.

What you see in this living room is that the pillows are doing a few things. They’re reinforcing that wonderful green. There’s a very subtle pattern on the green pillow but notice that’s blush color. That pop of color is the only place in that entire space where that color shows up and punch color could have been any color, it could have been a beautiful blush or a wonderful red. In this particular case, that soft, washed out, teal blue was exactly what we needed.

In this next bedroom, take a look. In this next bedroom, you’ll see that an important color is being reinforced. It’s already been introduced on the headboard, it’s been introduced on the window treatments and it shows up again in a beautiful plum poster pillow.

Let’s take a look at something else. Take a look at this really sleek media room. In this room, red, from those coffee tables, jumps onto the sofas, deepens and it also picks up some pattern. Take a look, too, at how it moves around the room in that piece of pillow that you see in that corner on the left side. And then if I show you another view of this room, notice that artwork actually determined the depth of the red that pulled into the rest of the space. So, pillows, they are powerful.

Pillows are powerful and knowing what to do with them is even more powerful. So, take a look at your pillows story in your home. See if it’s doing what you wanted to do and go tackle those pillows.
