The Kips Bay Showhouse 2015 was a real treat to see. In addition to marveling at the incredibly well nuanced spaces produced by the leading design minds practicing today, this year’s house also offered a few wonderful flourishes any Decorating Lover can do herself. Here are my top 3 easy picks for you to enjoy. So…enjoy!
Bookcase Drama
Want to power up a bookcase as well as the things in it? Instead of painting the back of the bookshelves a punch color – a delicious device that highlights the color itself – instead look at the powerful result born of painting the back of a white bookcase…black. Everything inside moves forward. Power up this idea by adding simple external library lighting mounted at the outside top of the bookcase also shown here. These types of lights can even by found inexpensively at IKEA!
David Phoenix Inc
Easy Patio Bar
Look at this fun bar server created by stacking glass shelves atop inverted oversized planter pots. The look would be equally fun if done with solid wood shelving instead of glass, or oversized metal planters instead of ceramic. Be careful to build with stability in mind – and enjoy the fact that this can be broken down and stored away at the end of the season – or the party!

Instant Kitchen Art
Need a cool idea to make a big splash on that blank piece of kitchen wall near the table? Look at this great grid made of alternating framed round mirrors? You can it, too…or you can even substitute with simple solid ceramic plates in not more than 2 colors. The trick is to hang as close together as possible.
